A Season to Slow Down: Gratitude, Grace, and Sweet Potatoes

As the air turns crisp and the smell of cinnamon and pumpkin fills our homes, I can feel that familiar buzz of excitement in the air. Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and with it comes the joy of gathering, cooking, and creating memories with the people we love most.
But let’s be honest — it’s also the time of year when things start to get a little crazy. The roads are busier, parking lots feel like obstacle courses, and everyone seems to be in a rush. I’ve seen people honking at each other in traffic, drivers cutting each other off, and stress written all over faces in grocery store lines.
So this year, I want to invite you — and remind myself — to slow down. Take a deep breath. Remember what this season is really about. If someone cuts you off, don’t chase them or get upset. Maybe they’re having a really hard day, or racing to help a loved one. We never truly know what someone else is carrying. A little kindness can go a long way, especially during the holidays.
Thanksgiving has always been my favorite time of year because it’s about connection and gratitude. It’s a pause before the Christmas rush, a time to reflect on how much we already have. When we stop long enough to notice the small blessings — a warm home, laughter around the table, the smell of something baking in the oven — we start to see how rich life truly is.
So let’s slow down — not just on the road, but in our hearts. Let’s listen more, smile more, and make space for gratitude. Take time to call someone you love, share a meal, or simply sit in silence and give thanks.
And of course, no Thanksgiving blog from me would be complete without something delicious to share. Here’s one of my favorite cozy side dishes that always brings comfort to the table:
